Good Afternoon, after all this time i think its time to share my summit of the Matterhorn with you all.
We set of from Hornli Hut at 5am, at this point it was pitch balck, we headed of up with our headtorches, at 6.08 we eccounted a huge rock fall which luckily missed us by approx 100 foot, then at 7.20 we encounted another rock fall which again missed us.
I would class myself as a very fit person who as done lots of climbing and scrambling in Scotland, i acclimatised for 2 weeks prior to the climb in Chamonix and summited Mont Blanc on the 8th Sept so i would have said i was well acclimatised.
I must admit i was totaly drained at the top when we got up there at 9am.
On the way down when it was light and you could actualy see what you had come up the exposure was massive, especially coming of the summit down the ice field which is approx 45 degrees.the going was tough going down as you have to use the fixed ropes which are definatly worse for wear.
When i arrived back down at Hornli Hut i was so relieved to be back down, the poor mountain is falling in bits!
