From the car park(you will need to buy a permit to park and camp) to garibaldi lake takes about 2-3hours(depending on your pace)on a very winding pathway up the mountian, if you go up in the summer make plenty of noise as this is bear country and you will almost always see at least one. Once at the lake its takes another 2-3 hours to reach the top of the black tusk, its a nice hike up with some real nice views across the park, its a well walked path so not hard to find your way. Once you reach the tusk it a scramble up the very peak but well worth it. In the summer it can get busy at the top, but the path way up is not that busy. No need for ropes just a strong set of boots (and legs).Within a short drive from garibaldi park your also have some other fine mountains for hiking and climbing(Squamish chief @ squamish, whistler and blackcomb and the golden ears).
