This was not a terribly difficult climb. We stayed the night at the Karbeyaz Hotel, which is located up a switchback road which proceeds from the village of Helvadere. The hotel is right on the mountain and I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to do the climb. The normal route goes straight to the mountain from the hotel and then wraps around the left side of it up some scree slopes to the caldera. We opted to go up the left hand couloir as viewed from the hotel. It was steep, but there were lots of large rocks providing plenty of handholds. In truth, it was quite fun. The couloir goes up to an intermediate ridge where from there it is only another 15 minute scramble to the caldera. There is the foundation of an old Zoroastrian temple on the crater rim and directly across from that is the main summit. It is quite easy to tell which one it is. 30 minutes from the temple on the LEFT HAND SIDE and you should be there. The views are good. Aladaglar and Bolkar mountains are in view, as is Erciyes and the Tuz Golu, the salt lake to the north. All up the round trip time was about 11 hours.
