I couldn't believe how little snow there actually was on the standard route, La Arista del Sol; only about the last 160 vertical meters or so. The route was quite non-technical, but fun all the same. Bummer we had carried a rope, pickets, etc. up there (at least to the hut). All we used were crampons and axes, and even these we could have gotten by without. My brother and I started for the summit from our tent near the Grupo de los Cien hut much later than do most - at about 1:30 in the afternoon. Encountering no problems and moving fairly quickly, we summitted at 4:45, and were back to our tent just as it was getting dark, not needing our headlamps. What amazing late afternoon conditions and skies we encountered. Beautiful.
