We stayed one night in the village Capileira (1500 m). Next day we drove the road GR411 up to 2050 m where we started to walk. We carried our skis through the forest to 2320 m where it was time to put on the skis. The highest point on our first day was Alto del Chorillo at 2711 m. From there it was a short run down to Refugio Poqueira at 2500 m where we stayed one night. An excellent hut with a very filling dinner ! The first day was a 4,5 h trip for us. Most of it on skis.

On the 5.january we started with skis from the hut at 08.45. We had skins on our skis and walked the rather gentle (compared to the direct approach from the hut to the summit) ridge from "Canada de la Iglesia" to the summit of Mulhacen. We spent 4,5 hours on the ascent. On the summit it was about 0ÂșC, blue sky and practically no wind, and a spectacular view: Africa, the Mediterranean and "half of Spain".

The descent was not that nice. For the most part the snow was windblown and looked like gale on the ocean. It offered very bad conditions for my rather undeveloped telemark-skills. Except the lower parts from 2500 meters and down where I managed to have some nice turns in the sun-soft snow.

On the last part down we followed the road and could ski almost to the roadblock at 2160 m.
