Featured photo of Espiguete

The mountain Espigüete is, together with Peña Prieta and Curavacas, one of the highest and representative peaks of the Cantabrian mountain chain, letting apart it Picos de Europa, that in reality are tended to consider a massive independent of the principal range. It is found in a region of Spain little known by the mountaineers and the tourists, and that nevertheless contains an extraordinary natural wealth.

Espigüete is considered a spectacular limestone rock comb that, though of modest absolute height, projects more than 1.000 m on the surrounding plains. With good conditions (in summer) the normal access routes are easy, though direct and a bit airy. In winter, with the ice and snow presence, some climbs imply a certain technical challenge.
