Keefe Peak

The tallest of the peaks on the west side of Conundrum valley and Conundrum Hot Springs, 6 miles drive and 9 miles hike from Aspen, Colorado. Great view of Castle Peak (14,256') across the valley. Sitting in the hot springs, you can see the route: Coming down the right ridge of Hilliard Peak, which has 2 huge vertical cracks filled with snow most of the year, there is a "pass" with a VERY steep (60 degree) green slope leading up to it. The pass is about 1 1/2 hrs from the springs, halfway to the summit of Keefe. There is a small white plastic pipe summit register. There were only 2 of us the summer of 2000, and none the previous year.
