We had booked through Exodus travel with the climb guided by the African Walking Company. I was with my daughter, Jen, six other Brits, an American and a Canadian. We all got on well and made good friends.
The AWC looked after us exceptionally well. Guiding, conversation and cooking were all excellent.
We were fortunate in having good weather for the duration of the climb. Clear skies throughout, warm days and cold nights. We walked the Shira route which I considered a good choice with varied scenery, intermediate targets (Shira Cathedral, Lent Hills Rock, the Lava Tower etc) and plenty of time to acclimatise. Amazing views.
I don't remember much about the night climb to the summit ridge but I'll never forget walking along it.
As an experienced hill walker in the UK, I found the walking easy and would recommend it to anyone who likes the hills. The only question is whether the altitude will affect you (think positive) and whether you can cope with seven nights camping!
