Reached Stella Point just after sunrise following a moonlit trek from Barafu Camp. Went via Shira Route. Great weather, full (actually blue) moon on summit day, very little wind and quite warm (6 farenheit at Stella Point). African Walking Company guided our group which was quite large - 15 people which included two 12 year olds and two 16 year olds. 13 made it to Stella and 7 to Uhuru. I was the only woman in our group that went to Uhuru but it was really worth it.
The guides were great, most of us made it with little or no effect from altitude and the cook was amazing. Shira was probably one day too long as we were able to drive quite far from the camp gate as the road was in good shape due to lack of rain. So, first day was only about 3 hours rather than 8.
One suggestion, for those of us who have enjoyed the experience, let's try and figure out a way to force tour operators to clean up the mountain!
