Mount Kilimanjaro Trip Report (#3728)

I took part in a climb, undertaken by 25 people, to raise money for The Anthony Nolan Trust. We used the Marangu route and took 5 days. If you climb take as long as possible. The trip was organised by Guerba Tours and started from the Marangu Hotel. Nine of the group made it to Gilmans Point and a further Seven to Uhuru Peak. TAKE IT VERY SLOWLY.
Those that were at the back of the group on days one, two and three all made it to Uhuru. Some of the group used Diamox but it did not work for all.
Drink as much as possible and get as much sleep as you can, you will need every ounce of energy for summit day !!!!
It's tough but if you are prepared to be VERY tired and go through hell you will make it, and when it's all over, you will feel that anything you do is acheivable. Life is too short not to give it a go. But, give this mountain a lot of respect. It deserves it.
I would like to say a special thank you to David our assistant guide without whom I would probably still be at Gilmans Point. He is a true Hero.
