Enjoyed a 6 day trek on the mountain ascending via the Rongai Route and descending by Marangu. Six day camping trek with the African Walking Company, organised by EXODUS in the UK. Hepson and Remi were the two main guides and were first class. Porters were efficient and our cook was brill. We had a fantastic Christmas afternoon camped below the cliffs of Mawenzi in glorious sunshine. Great bunch in our group of 7 with 4 reaching UHURU peak and 5 making Gilman's Point. Exhausting summit day but well worth it. (Cheryl has a big heart in her 8 stone body and made sure her hubby made it to the roof of Africa). Not very cold on the way up as it turned out quite mild. Heavy snow on the way down followed by rain crossing the saddle heading for Horombo. All the best to Jo when she returns next year to try and make the top. Sore heads, sick and upset bellies. Plenty tablets of all description to help this but no diamox by any of the group.
