Mount Kilimanjaro Trip Report (#3809)

Great trip, perfectly organised by Zara Tours. We did it by Machame Route, but did cut the stage from Barranco to Barafu in two (and spend the night in Karanga Valley) so we did arrive in Barafu without being too exhausted. Recovery is difficult there (because of all the noise you can't sleep that well) and by midnight you have to go to the summit. The sun rising behind MAwenzi Peak at 6.15 was beautiful. The Machame route leads you through all sorts of scenery and is very impressive. Unfortunately, Kili is (in my opinion) a bit too crowded. Mount Meru (which we did for acclimatization purposes) is also very impressive and very clean (even the huts seem to look sterile) and you're mearly alone on the mountain.
