Great climb. Very enjoyable. I did the Marangu or 'Coca-cola' route, staying in huts the whole way up. I had done a 20,000 ft Himalayan peak a month or so previous, so I was in good shape still. My guide and I were the first to summit that day by a long shot. Unfortunately we were too quick and the sun hadn't risen, so I summitted in the dark. It was extremely cold (different from the previous 3 days) and I had to move fast to try and keep warm. Also, my headlight lost a battle with a leaky bottle of deet and would spontaneously go on and off. My guide's flashlight had been stolen, so that made things a bit sketchy with only one unreliable light between the two of us. But it all worked out in the end and made for a spectacular 5 days. Lots of nice people on the way up, several that I am still in touch with. I would say don't hesitate to do it alone, plenty of others are solo as well.
