I cannot thank our guide Godlisten enough, as he got us to Uhuru peak two minutes before sunrise--perfect timing because once you're up there you don't want to hang out too long. We completed our final ascent from Kibo to Uhuru in a little over five and a half hours, which was quite fast from what I understand. Out of my group of six, five made it to Uhuru and one to Gillmans--all in all a very good success rate; Godlisten was pleased! We took the Marangu (Coca-Cola) route, and we used an acclimatization day to improve our chances. Everyone in the group also took diamox, which is great other than the fact that you'll be pissing every two hours during the night. I had read a lot of entries and emailed several people on this summit log before going over, and the advice I received was invaluable! Many people said it was the hardest thing they've ever done, and now I have to agree that it was one of the most difficult things I've done in my life. We used Zara as our tour operator. They were very professional, and our fee also included a stay at their hotel in Moshi (The Springland) the night before the mountain and the night after. Our guide Godlisten was extremely knowledgeable, spoke very good English, and had a great sense of humor--I cannot recommend him and Zara highly enough! If anybody has any questions regarding the climb, or Zara, or getting around in Tanzania please feel free to send me an email!
