For those of you trying to decide whether to climb Kings Peak via Gunsite Pass or the chute located west of Gunsite pass, let me offer this advice. The chute is more direct and will save you time. However, it is very steep and the rock beneath your feet can be very loose. I always go up via the chute and it always saves me 30-45 minutes each way. However, I would never take a scout troop or kids up the chute. Never go up the chute if someone is ahead of you. Wait for them to get to the top. Rocks are often knocked loose and they don't stop until the bottom. That said, if you have a small, responsible group with good boots I would suggest the chute. If you intend to use the chute you may want to camp at Henry's lake instead of Dollar lake. It is much less crowded, offers very good fishing and is located not far from the chute. Good luck. I disagree with taking kids up Kings Peak as it can be dangerous. You may consider someone else...And plese haul out your garbage.
