Thanks to Marshall Hall for adding this peak.

Mount Hayden was going to be Aspen's first ski area. Aspen Mountain was selected instead because of its close proximity to town. Hayden is a popular backcountry ski destination in the winter. A winter only access accross private land starts from Castle Creek road. Backcountry and avalanche awareness skills are a must.

In the summer, you can climb Hayden from the American Lake trial. The trail crosses scree slope a quarter mile or so before the lake. Head up the right side of the slope to reach the ridge. Drop down into the valley on the other side and head up into it's bowl. The route to the summit is up a very, very steep and loose grassy slope.
