Denali Trip Report (#5430)

Landed on the glacier on the evening of 14 June - perfect weather. Climbed via the West Buttress route to 14,000 feet camp with Steve Griffith but summitted on 28 June with Dave Hamilton from Seattle. Bad storms kept us at 14,000' for three days, then a day of sickness grounded me while my partner went on to the summit with some of Dave's team. They had a hell of a time in stormy conditions. My thanks go to Mike Dann and Simon Edmundson without whose generosity and hospitality my trip would have ended at 14,000'. Dave and I summited a few days later in perfect conditions - got back to 17,000' around midnight. Mike and Simon had summited a few hours earlier. Had a celebratory meal at 14,000' camp with Mike and Simon - our thanks to Tommy and his team, which included Jim Williams, for the fresh bacon, butter and moral support, and also to Kurt Jensen for his tent, spiced apple cider, maccaroni and endless games of cards. Fantastic trip.
