Located in Sequoia National Park, this fantastic blade of granite is the best rock spire in California outside Yosemite Valley. The easiest route to the summit at this time is rated 5.11. The brushy approach through tick-infested poison oak is occasionally made more interesting by the presence of bears and rattlesnakes. As of this writing, fewer than 50 parties have ever signed te register at the summit, and the register contains a virtual who's who of backcountry climbers: Allen Steck, John Salathe, Galen Rowell, Richard Leversee, Anton Nelson, Warren Harding, etc.
