Thanks to Jim Lombard for adding this peak.

Second highest point on the Sandwich range (Oceola is 200 ft higher.) Framed in a small glacial area with steep sides dropping several thousand feet to the valley. Its neighbors are Mt Wonalancet and Mt Whiteface (A NH 4,000 footer.) The Mt is named after the famous chief Passaconaway a chief of the Penacook Indians who made their homes locally in the NH wooded hills. The Penacook believe he was taken away to the summit of Agiochook (Mt Washington) in a sled driven by wolves. From there he acended to the heavens. Easiest route to the summit is the Dicey Mills trail from the Ferncroft parking area in Wonalancet 9.2 RT and 2,950 elevation gain. This is a wonderful fall hike as the area abounds in maples and beech with birch. Do it as a loop by ascending Mt Whiteface via Blueberry ledge trail- take the Rollins trail (a ridge hike) and then hook up with Dicey for a 1/2 mile trip to the summit. This is a 12 mile hike with 3,800 ft of elevation gain. Passaconaway has limited views but Whitface has a ledge which commands unlimited vistas of the NH Lakes region.
