Desperation Peak

Southern Rockies have high treelines. So it gives the false pretense of not being that high when you are actually are. The mountains that surround Santa Fe are beautiful. We stopped at a special Recreation Center in town. We got a free map (pretty decent too) and some good information to make a good hike. This would prep us for our ascent of Mt. Sneffles in just two days. If your coming from Texas (Sea Level) do not go straight up a fourteener, mountains like desperation peak are great for building your immunity to the high altitude.
