Mount Rano, at 1700m is the second highest summit in the Western Province of Solomon Islands. It is a montane mossy forest. There are rare birds found in this habitat. Such as the Kolombangara Leaf Warbler, only found above 1400m. Or at least 1000m. There is a campsite in the middle, before reaching the summit the next day to truly appreciate the views. Nearest town is Gizo. Guides may be sort from Iriri village. For a few dollars the young men and boys are able to lead a tour group to and from. Best times during the mid-year, as the end of the year is often wet. Be prepared to get wet. Reasonable views of the Vona Vona Lagoon.
|Best months for climbing:||Jun, Jul, Aug|
|First successful climber(s):||Not known, most likely local people|
|Nearest major airport:||Honiara|
