5 ATTEMPTS, 2 IN LATE SPRING 83', FOLLOWED BY 3 ATTEMPTS SUMMER OF 84'. MTN. WAS ACTIVE AND DIRTY,

VERY DEVASTATED FROM PREVIOUS ERUPTIONS. ROUTE FOLLOWED ALONG THE EAST SIDE OF SHOESTIRNG GLACIER,

THE ONLY GLACIER LEFT ALL HAD MELTED ON MAY 18TH,80'

ALL ATTEMPTS WERE FAILURES BY CLIMBING STANDARDS,

BUT NONE THE LESS IT WAS A DANGEROUSLY, THRILLING ADVENTURE INTO THE UNKNOWN. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK

MIKE, CHRIS AND JERRY FOR GOING WHERE NO ONE ELSE HAD GONE SINCE MAY 18TH ERUPTION. AS A FIRST CLIMB,

IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND A TRULY WONDERFUL AREA. MY HAT GOES OFF TO ALL THAT HAVE FOLLOWED SINCE. REMEMBER, CLIMB SAFE, CLIMB HARD, CLIMB ON!!

BEEN SINCE FIRST ERUPTION
