My first attempt was stymied by a good dose of AMS. A retreat to Quito to acclimatize helped, and returned a week later with a friend. Had a great, uneventful climb up, until at the top, we ran into 2 people struggling and had to help rescue them. We ran (literally) down the ridge line in fading light (very scary and probably not a great idea, but we were young and dumb), returned in the dark with headlamps and found the struggling climbers. Helped them to safety, though both of our headlamps died (new batteries and bulbs didn't solve the problem) so all of us had to self-rescue down the last 1,000 ft. in the dark. Fun stuff!
