Mount Whitney Trip Report (#7960)

Summitted with my brother, Daivd, under ideal climbing conditions. Started at Whitney Portal at 4:00 a.m. and reached summit at 1:00 p.m. The 97 switchbacks were more monotonous than anything else, but otherwise not difficult to negotiate. Crossed the snow field just below the Trail Crest, which was technically the most difficult part of the climb, but with the aid of an ice axe it was not too bad. Spectacular views from the summit. Summit temperaure: 55 degrees F. Crampons not necessary. Met several interesting people along the way. Mountain climbers seem to be a friendly bunch. Other mountains climbed include: Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Rainier, Baker. Next one: Aconcagua.
