Thanks to Harish Rawat for adding this peak.
Panwali Dwar is a pin shaped snowy mountain located in the Nanda Devi range of Uttaranchal. Panwali Dwar is placed in the mountain ranges of the Himalayas in the Garhwal region.
Its a bit difficult near the summit.
Winky was the first britisher lady who ascent on this peak
HHmm. I'm not quite sure who Winky is? but I organised an Australian expedition to this peak in 1987. We were attempting a second ascent, as we were under the belief that an earlier Japanese expedition had achieved a first ascent. ? Access was via the Pindar river trekking route. We placed 2 camps, the first beside the glacier below the Panwali/Bhaulguri col. The second on the col. We managed to ascend the snow slope that then existed to attain the ridge (Right hand ridge in photo shown) below the obvious notch in the ridge. Lead climbers mananged about 6000 metres still below the notch.
This is an admirable objective. I'm unaware of Winky's ascent but would highly recommend this peak and area as a reasonable Semi Alpine area.. stunning scenery and many serious high alpine targets.
Our attempt stalled out on the ridge but it looked sensational.. Dont leave your ice gear behind.. A great unsuccessful expedition to a stunning area..
So if Winky made it I'm guessing the next ascent would be the third? Damn I wish we'd made it, to get that view of Nada Devi behind.. Alas it wasn't to be..
