Started off at 06:00 from the barrier, walking along the road to La Besurta. Passed La Renclusa refuge following path to Pico Maladeta. At altitude of Portillon Superior contoured onto ridge approaching Portillon from above. Not impressed with the boulder field beyond but the glacier was fun. Sections had been stripped of snow and melt water was gushing down threatening to engulf my boots. The crampons were useful at this stage but were not really required on the snow covered sections. The final scramble over the Mahoma Step was a real sting in the tail but was not really very difficult. Hit 'the wall' on the way down as I had'nt been eating enough but gained a new lease of life once through the Portillon. Found the track down from Portillon Inferior very steep and quite hard to follow. Back at the car around 16:00 and back to campsite for a few beers. Fantastic scenery and a fine climb.
