Victoria's highest peak is a monster of a mountain. 1400m vertical gain, in under 6kms if you take the Staircase Spur track. Myself and two friends started this climb just before midday on a Saturday, our first o/night hike each. in 30deg heat we had around 15kg packs (incl. 2lt Red Wine) each. It is, without a doubt, the hardest climb I've ever experienced. Just constant uphill the whole way, with some seriousy steep parts. We camped on the summit right next to the cairn with a great sunset/moonrise followed by great moonset/sunrise. 6 hours up, 2.5 hours down. God bless gravity on the way down. I highly recommend dipping your feet in Mountain Creek at the base camp once you finish.
