Thanks to Chris Smith for adding this peak.
Catstycam is a ridge peak from Helvellyn. It is nearly but not quite the perfect mountain form. The north face shouldn't be tackled without experience.
Ascents: From Helvellyn, take the path towards Swirral edge. It is a scramble down the edge and should be attempted carefully. Proceed to the summit of Catstycam.
2. You can also ascend via the north west ridge. This is as difficult if not more difficult than swirral edge. However, it is a good experience.
From the summit cairn you can see as far as the northen pennines. The view westwards is blocked by the bulky summit of Helvellyn, however, on a clear day, you are rewarded from the top.
' If Catstycam stood alone, away from the bulk of Helvellyn, it would be, without doubt, one of the finest mountains in lakeland' A.Wainwright.
