I climbed up to the top of Torries and skied the Dead Dog Colouir the day before the fourth of July. I used the standard route up to the col between Gray's and Torries to get to the top. Next time I would definitely climb the colouir too. We were able to assess the conditions of the colouir with binoc's on our ascent, plus we had met two people who had climbed the colouir on the way down and got to talk to them about the conditions. There was five of us who hiked the mountain but only two of us decided to ski. On the top it is pretty scary looking down the colouir, it is steep and narrow and long, 2000 vertical of sustained 40 degree pitch approaching 47 degrees near the top. Watch for snowslides later in the day. Something everyone who can should ski.
