San Gorgonio Peak is beautiful!!! The day we got up ther, the skies were clear, there was a light wind blowing, and it was HOT!!! I was amazed at how many people were up there... mostly guys. We were a girl scout group, in amongst a TON of guys- boy scouts, manly men, jocks- EVERYONE! And almost all of them commented on how rare it is to see girls out hiking or doing activities like backpacking. Some of them even had the audacity to make snide remarks such as "Oh, is there a playboy shoot here today?" or "Are you gals here for the fashion show?" Yeah, right, like we're gonna do a fashion show in our backpacking gear. gimme a break. It made me sad to see how surprised these people were to see us, up there and hiking, just like everyone else. It made me angry that they still think of girls as lowly and helpless... when we're not, and hadn't we just proved that to them by making it up there? Actually, not only did we make it up there, we did it in half the time the other boy scout troops did, and we started from the same place- High Meadow Springs!!! girls CAN, and DO, do this kind of stuff, each and every day. Open your eyes. Girls are just as good as guys. We don't have to prove it. if you're not willing to believe i,t then you're missing out. Girls ROCK! Just for anyone who wants to know: We started our trip at Momyer Creek Trailhead, and camped in Alger Creek, Saxton, and High Meadow Springs each night, consecutively. We summited the peak on our fourth day, and went on to hike down to High Creek to stay that night. We hiked out to Vivian Creek trailhead the next day.
