Mount McLoughlin Trip Report (#9465)

I first climbed Mcloughlin on sept 2nd, 1999, with my friend Mike. We started out at about 7:30 in the morning on a beautiful, clear day. As we walked through the forest, we could hear a jet approaching, getting louder and louder in just a few seconds. Suddenly, right above us (and I mean right above us), an f-18 roared by, less than three hundred feet. It was going so fast I only saw the briefest impression of it, but I saw enough that I could tell what it was. Scared the hell out of us! Other than that, it was an uneventful climb on a beautiful mountain. If you don't like mountain crowds, this might be an excellent climb as we saw less than ten people the entire day.
