Sometimes called Mt.Aripo or Aripo Mountain, it is the highest point in the twin-island nation of Trinidad & Tobago. It is one of the two mountains on Trinidad's Northern Range that reaches at least 3,000 feet. The other is El Tucuche (also on this site). Mt.Aripo is covered in tropical rainforest and montane forest with elfin woodland at its summit. The mountain is periodically shrouded by low clouds. Located in the vicinity of this mountain is the Aripo Cave system which is home to one of the largest colony of Oilbirds, the only nocturnal flying fruit-eating birds in the world.
