Marcus Peak is located in the northeast quadrant of Mount Rainier National Park in a sub-range called the Sourdough Mountains. Marcus Peak is a day-hike destination from Sunrise Point. It's made of andesite basalt which formed when lava slowly cooled and formed into hexagonal columns, which is very evident on the thimble-shape summit. It is named to honor either Marcus Whitman or Dr. Marcus W. Lyon of the Smithsonian. Prominence: 482 ft.
