Mt. Democrat is near the higher Mt. Lincoln, and was named by a group who disliked President Lincoln. Climbing Mt. Democrat alone from Kite Lake makes for a great first fourteener, but is usually climbed with Mt. Lincoln and Mt. Bross.

Democrat was my 6th 14Ker. It was a beautiful day for hiking. There where alot of people on the mountain that day. My initial plan was to camp out at Kite Lake, 12,000 feet.

  • Log #9876 - by Kevin and Jenni Baker on Sep 20, 2003
The Democrat, Lincoln, Bross trifecta is supposed to be one of the easiest multi-14'er traverses, but not on this day. The wind was brutal on an otherwise pleasant day. I parked my car on Kite Lake...

  • Log #9881 - by Jordan Clay on Aug 01, 2003
The route was well worn up Democrat, to Lincoln and to Bross. The descent off Bross is a mess. The trail that appears to head back to Kite Lake peters out to loose rock and scree fields. There needs...
