Latest researches made by me points that Cerro Azul is the highest point of Cojedes State, Venezuela. It is located in an internal range called Serrania de Nirgua, just south of Nirgua. It's summit is shared by the states of Cojedes and Yaracuy. A secondary road, best for 4x4, gets you to Hacienda La Venezolana (aprox. 1300 mts.) and a very good place to camp prior to the ascent. Ask local people for a good guide. There is only a partial trail towards the mountain. Have a good map handy. A GPS will be usefull to identify the summit, not easy otherwise.
It's a 3 hour trek in cloud forest from La Venezolana to the summit. Start early...watch for dense fog in the afternoon.
Beautiful jaguar footprints along the trail in my last visit!
