Thanks to Parag Ahire for adding this peak.

Garnet Peak is located in the Laguna Mountains a short drive away from San Diego CA. Mt Laguna is located at a height of 6000 ft east of San Diego on the Eastern Edge of Cleveland National Forest.

Penny Pines trailhead is the closest parking area beside Sunrise Highway. The one-way distance to Garnet Peak from the parking lot is about 2 miles.

Getting to the top is fairly easy with the actual climb being about 500ft, having begun the hike from the parking lot that lies at 5380 ft above sea level.

Fantastic views of the Anza-Borrego Desert that lies 3000 ft below on the east is the reward for getting to this peak. The peak itself is made of of jarry rocks and does not have a lot of space. It can be windy up there even in the summer months. Winter snow can make the hike slightly difficult but never too much so as to require special equipment.
