Whiteside Mountain

Whiteside Mt is easily accessible from US 64, between Highlands and Cashiers, North Carolina. An easy to moderate 2-mile roundtrip trail leads to the top of the mountain for some incredible views. This trail is called the Whiteside Mountain National Recreational Trail. Whiteside Mt supposedly has the highest vertical cliffs in the southeast (750'), so rock climbing is an added attraction. A good time to take this trail is mid-to-late October.

A nice moderate climb, stunning vistas. Sad to see development getting so close. The cliffs can be intimidating, as the trail skirts some with impressive drop-offs. I love it.
