I attempted this peak with my father, 63 years old and Dorte, 19 years old. We were quite a mixed group, all coming from Heidelberg in Germany.
We had good luck with the weather, as it was quite changeable in this season. The first day we went from the "curva" to moraine camp- very nice, impressing walk with good views of the mountain and Huascaran. Start at 2:00h in the morning, full moon, clear sky! Getting onto the glacier was almost the "key passage" on the route to the summit. Good snow/ice conditions allowed us to climb unroped. From the col on it's cold, as sun hits the SW-ridge not until the afternoon. We only used the rope just below the summit as it was steep and exposed. Great emotions while reaching this wonderful summit at 11:30h. Still good conditions on the glacier during our descent, it doesn't get slushy as e.g. in the Alps.
