Imbabura Norte

Featured photo of Imbabura Norte

Imbabura is a volcano north-east of Quito near the town of Otavalo, overlooking San Pablo lake. It can be climbed starting from the village of La Esperanza (at about 3000 m altitude) north-east of Imbabura, reachable by public transportation. The trailhead is a few Km outside La Esperanza - and a few hundreds meters higher -and can be reached by private transport if not on foot. Imbabura has two peaks: the north summit is first reached after a hike through paramo followed by an up-and-down scramble and it's lower than the south one. The south summit can be reached from the north peak by walking along the crater rim.
