Featured photo of Snaekollur

Highest point of an extinct vulcano between the Lang- and Hofsjokull. Take the jeep track from the Kerlingarfjoll Mountain Resort to the abandoned Kastali ski hut at 1.050 m. Park the car there and take the track over the end moraine and up the lateral moraine to where the path takes you diagonally up the coarse, rather unstable Western scree slope of Mt. Fannborg (1428 m). Zig-zag up the last 100 m and from the top plateau of Fannborg, staying above the glacier, descend down towards the col between Fannborg and Snaekollur and then climb up to the top the latter (1477 m). About 2 hrs from the Kastali hut. Magnificent panoramic view of the entire center of iceland including all big ice caps.
