Wetterhorn Peak Trip Report (#10966)

We really enjoyed this unique peak. Wetterhorn does not easily give up its summit. Numerous cairned routes through the scree and talus near the top demand discerning route selection. We had to retrace and regroup a couple times. Once through the Ship's Prow, however, the Class 3 scramble up the final pitch to the summit was really invigorating. The small summit held spectacular views of Uncompahgre and the rest of the San Juans. Perfect weather made this outstanding climb, and the presence of thousands of sheep in the valleys below added a depth to this pastoral setting. Photos are available via the website link.
