Thanks to Agnese for adding this peak.
Tête du Portail gets its name from a natural arch called Portail de Fully that stands at its base. The trail starts in the area of Champex d’Alesse, just north of Martigny at several points along a dirt road. There are small parking areas in Champex d’Alesse (1124 m), la Giète (1345 m) or la Méreune (1540 m). Take shortcuts to avoid the main road up to a refuge, where the road ends. From there the trail continues for a while on a grassy slope and then leads to a rocky ridge and to the Portail de Fully at 2267 m. It’s possible to scramble up the arch and cross it. From the Portail de Fully it’s then an easy walk to the summit of Tête du Portail, marked by a cairn, at 2335 m. Grand Chavalard (2899 m) towers just behind Tête du Portail. All around great views of Dents du Midi, Mont Blanc, Grand Combin, Dent Blanche, Weisshorn, just to mention a few.
NOTE: Trip reports were previously called "Summit Logs" - same feature, new name
