Doherty Mountain is located in Jefferson County, approximately 9 miles east of the town of Whitehall. It is a landmark on the north side of Interstate 90 where the freeway takes a jog at the foot of the mountain. It is situated at the southern extreme of the Elkhorn Mountains, and north of Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park and the Tobacco Root Mountains. Doherty Mountain is a large north-plunging anticline. Igneous rock.
