Pico de Orizaba Trip Report (#1083)

I attempted Citlaltepetl in January, 1996 and did not make it. I was sick and probably too stressed out. Tried again with several different friends/acquaintances. This time, we all made it to the summit.
I strongly recommend that sufficient time be spent acclimatizing, as I think this contributed greatly to my failure to summit in 1996. We spent the first night in Tlachichuca (Joaquin's place is great!!), the next day driving up to Piedra Grande, the third day climbing to the glacier, the fourth day resting and acclimatizing, and the fifth day summitting. This formula helped give our group of 6 100% success summitting.
Our group consisted of Don Turley, Bob Potts, Jim Germaine and his son Ray, and Rick Loop. We climbed with Boston Bob and Chuck, who wanted to join a larger rope team.
