We started out in the morning at 2am from the Piedra Grande hut (13,900), and had scouted the trail the day before to 15,000 just a little above the sidewalk. We had been worried about finding our way through the labrynth, but the snow had preserved someone else's tracks from the weekend before and they were easy to follow. The glacier was snowy at the bottom, but halfway up (17,400) very icy. The only crevasses we ran across were no wider than 1/2 a foot. Summitted at 11:45 am. Our group was moving very slow, and 1/2 turned back at 17,400 due to altitude sickness. The views of Izta, Popo and La Malinche were breath-taking, ha ha. If you care to see some pics or have questions email me. Hard work, but vale la pena "worth the pain."
