First of all Tlachichuca is not a climbing mecca at all!! In fact the only place in town that has anything to do with climbing is virtually hidden in the middle of some walled structure with the entrance being the back door through some small shop. very hidden. you practically have to say the magic words (Senor Reyes) to be shown the secret passage!! There is just a small climbers hut with some beds and climbing memorabilia on the walls. we didn't stay there but just drove to the huts at 14,000. we had our own vehicle.
Stayed in the hut and acclimated. No camp or tents needed. Left hut went to summit. Returned to hut. Packed up and left. Just follow red flag markers up through the rock section, cross the snowfield and go up the snowcone to crater rim and continue to summmit. Pretty straightforward. Couldn't find any registry box on the summit but there was some strange metal stuff- i think it's artwork of some kind!! crazy mexicans! good climbing.
