Denman Peak is an easy dayhike in the Tatoosh range of Mount Rainier National Park. Most peakbaggers will combine it with ascents of Pinnacle Peak and Plummer Peak. Locate the Pinnacle Saddle Trailhead across the road from Reflection Lakes. The trail climbs easily along a beautiful trail that starts in cool forest and in less than a mile begins to open up to views of Mt Rainier. At 1.3 miles the maintained trail reaches the saddle between Pinnacle Peak and Plummer Peak. From the saddle find the path that continues west traversing the north slope of Plummer Peak. This is mostly a walk-up except for easy scrambling up Denman's southeast ridge.
On June 21, 1931, the Mountaineers named a flat-topped peak between Lane and Plummer Peaks in the Tatoosh range in Lewis County in the southern end of the National Park for Asahel Holmes Denman. "Following twenty years of work in the interests of the Mountaineers club, A. H. Denman of Tacoma has been honored by having one of the last unnamed peaks in the Tatoosh Range dedicated as Denman Peak by a group of mountaineers who ascended it Sunday. Major O. A. Tomlinson of the Rainier National Park and Horace Albright of the National Park Service recommended Denman's name for the peak, formerly known as "that" peak, as the most suitable. "Denman Peak lies between Plummer and Lane peaks. Denman who was presented with a deed to the mountain is a prominent Tacoma attorney." [The Tacoma Ledger. June 23, 1931.]
Prominence: 206 feet.
