Barrier Peak

Barrier Peak is located on the east side of Mount Rainier National Park. This small rounded summit can be seen from the Highway 410 switchbacks between Cayuse and Chinook Passes. It's also a highlight of the Owyhigh Lakes area. Barrier Peak is the southern culmination of Governors Ridge. Access via the Owyhigh Lakes Trail, nine miles round-trip and 3000 feet elevation gain. An alternate option is to drive 6 miles south on Highway 123 from Cayuse Pass to Deer Creek Trailhead. While shorter in distance, it has more elevation gain.
