We left the Chewach TH at 9am. It was wonderful trail to hike. It was dust free and horse free. We got to the meadow where the Fire creek trail starts in a couple of hours. The river crossing was via two 4" logs tied together for 20 feet. We got to the meadow at 6080' where I looked for the trail to Meadow lake which was shown on ALL maps. After about an hour, I gave up. We proceeded on another half mile (6120') where we found a wonderful camp. I headed off for Cal peak following an old trail. It took me ~2.5 hours RT and the summit was un-eventful. Sunday we hike the Fire Cr and Coleman Ridge trail to the base of Remmel. Trail tread was good except in the meadow below Coleman Ridge but it is was cairned. Where we left the trail to ascend Remmel, the tread was good. We followed and picked up a great trail to the summit. For an abandoned and dropped trail, the Remmel Peak trail is in better shape than most maintained trails. We summited around noon and spent about 1.5 hours enjoying the wonderful views. I left a memorial register to Chris Weber. It was a great trip. Mike Torok 9/11-12/99
