Mount Heyburn Trip Report (#11535)

This was my first alpine snow climb with partners Drew Erickson and John Kitley who have now become life-long friends and climbing partners. Snow was heavy that year and three inches of fresh cascaded continually down the Petzoldt couloir as we climbed up. A four foot cornice loomed over the top of the climb, which we gingerly chopped and climbed through. Glissaded most of the way down the backside in about an hour. We have now learned that climbs on Heyburn and the Grand Mogul are best completed in a single day push parking lot to parking lot. We had to climb back up to the 4th bench lake to retrieve our bivy gear. Great climb with great friends.
